Alcohol Ethoxylate Blends

Fernol Alcohol Ethoxylate Blends are proprietary blends of nonionic surfactants that provide high-performance, environmentally friendly alternatives designed for ease of formulation when replacing Nonyl Phenol Ethoxylates (NPE’s). 

NPE’s are a group of nonionic surfactants that have been widely used due to their chemical versatility and abundant supply.   NPE’s are commonly found in applications such as household, industrial and institutional cleaning, metalworking, textile and leather processing, emulsion polymerization, paints and coatings, oil and gas exploration and production, agrochemicals, and pulp and paper industries. 

Nonyl Phenol Ethoxylates have a history of being highly effective and widely used, but over the past 10 years, NPE’s have become scrutinized for their lack of biodegradability and subsequent threat to aquatic life.  Phenol, the derivative of these surfactants, does not degrade to acceptable levels in wastewater systems and has the potential to harm aquatic life when reaching overexposure limits.   As a result, many government regulatory agencies, as well as private companies are demanding that NPE’s are taken out of their products to be replaced by more environmentally friendly products such as the Fernol Alcohol Ethoxylate Blends. 

Fernol Alcohol Ethoxylate Blend series of products are designed to replace environmentally harmful NPE’s with bio-friendly, versatile options.  These products are direct replacements for commonly used surfactants NP4, NP6, NP9, and NP12.   In each case, the Fernol Alcohol Ethoxylate Blends are designed to match the performance characteristics of the NPE’s, while eliminating the problem of aquatic toxicity and poor biodegradation. 

Nonyl Phenol Ethoxylates (NPE’s) are used for their excellent emulsifying and dispersing properties.  This chemistry makes these products excellent choices for stabilizing emulsions and dispersing concentrates.  They also make effective wetting agents, solubilizers, and detergents in various applications.   Fernol Alcohol Ethoxylate Blends are designed to not only match these performance characteristics, but in some cases perform better than NPE’s in select applications.
